Dark Chocolate Bark w/ Bacon, Almonds, and Smoked Sea Salt

It’s day 2 of my “Twelve Days of Christmas treats” challenge, and today I’m combining dark chocolate, crispy bacon, toasty almonds, and smokey sea salt to make the easiest treat EVER! (A.K.A. “Man Candy”)

IMG_6314I love chocolate, in fact, I’m kind of obsessed. Dark chocolate just happens to be my favorite, and lucky for me, since it’s the healthiest of all chocolates, it means I can consume twice as much right?!

IMG_6312I make chocolate bark a lot, because in my mind, when I add nuts and dried fruit to dark chocolate, it automatically makes it a healthy snack. Adding bacon might not be the right choice if you’re trying to go healthy, but since it’s the holidays, our calorie intake can be as high as we want since we all know that our New Year’s resolution will be getting back into shape and eating healthy… or at least for the month of January.

Chocolate bark is hands down the simplest yet impressive treat to hand out for the holidays. Even you have absolutely no culinary experience (*cough cough* my sister) you can totally pull this off and be the most popular neighbor on the block. It’s seriously a “no-recipe recipe”. Meaning that you really don’t even need a recipe to make this. You just melt some chocolate, throw on some toppings, and let it set; break it up into whatever size pieces you’d like (saving the biggest ones for yourself of course), and that’s it!

IMG_6288I used smoked Maldon sea salt for this, because the smokeyness and flakeyness of the salt plays so perfect with the bacon. I actually found it in the international section of the grocery store, but you can also search for it in the spice section or online. If you can’t find it, you can of course use regular Maldon sea salt, or any other flakey sea salt. Oooo and if you could get your hands on some smoked almonds, that would be awesome too!

I love salty sweet things, and so this had the perfect amount of rich chocolate, and savory salty notes from the bacon, almonds, and salt. So whether you’re clueless in the kitchen, or you just want a super quick and easy, and addictive treat, you need to make this! NOW!

Instructions
  1. Pour your chocolate into a heat-safe bowl, and microwave in 30 second increments until just about melted; stirring every 30 seconds. You do not want to burn the chocolate, so microwave it until most of the chocolate is melted except for a few pieces; stir until the residual heat melts the remaining chocolate.
  2. Pour the chocolate onto a 9x13 pan or sheet pan that has been lined with wax paper or parchment paper. Spread out chocolate until it's about 1/8- 1/4 inches thick (depending on how thick you want it to be).
  3. Sprinkle with bacon, almonds, and sea salt. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, or until hard; break into desired size pieces, and serve. This can be left out at room temperature, but storing it in the refrigerator will keep it nice and crisp.
Recipe Notes

Make sure you cook your bacon until very crispy throughout. No one wants soggy bacon bits with their chocolate!
